This is theoretical: real speed can vary with Wi‑Fi, server, protocol and congestion.

What this tool does

This estimate divides file size by the effective transfer rate to approximate download duration. Use the speed you actually sustain, and keep units consistent: internet plans are usually advertised in megabits per second while file sizes are shown in bytes.

How to use it

Enter the values requested by the calculator and check the result together with the notes shown below it.

Practical example

Use a realistic example from your own setup to compare scenarios. The result is a reference, not a replacement for manufacturer specifications.

How to interpret the result

Treat the result as an estimate whenever real-world factors are not available to the browser. For hardware, network or safety decisions, verify the relevant technical specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my download slower than my plan says?

Plans are measured in megabits while files are in megabytes (1 MB = 8 Mb); the server, Wi-Fi and protocol overhead also play a part.

What is the difference between Mbps and MBps?

Mbps is megabits per second and MBps is megabytes per second. A byte is 8 bits, so 100 Mbps is about 12.5 MBps.
