What this tool does

Encode text as Base64 or decode a Base64 string back into data. Base64 is a representation format, not encryption: anyone with the encoded value can decode it, so never use it alone to protect passwords, keys or private information.

How to use it

Enter the values requested by the calculator and check the result together with the notes shown below it.

Practical example

Use a realistic example from your own setup to compare scenarios. The result is a reference, not a replacement for manufacturer specifications.

How to interpret the result

Treat the result as an estimate whenever real-world factors are not available to the browser. For hardware, network or safety decisions, verify the relevant technical specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 the same as encryption?

No. Base64 only encodes data so it can travel as text, and anyone can decode it. It does not protect sensitive information.

Why is the result larger than the original?

Every 3 bytes are represented by 4 characters, so the encoded text is roughly one third larger.
